Third FloorThere are several different kinds of call numbers used on 3rd floor, as well as different sizes of books and shelving. Study the floor plan carefully so you find the books you need:
MnU-D
Books that begin with MnU-D are U of M PhD theses, also called dissertations. They are ahead and to your left as you leave the elevator and staircase, just east of the center of 3rd floor.
MnU-M Books that begin with MnU-M are U of M master's theses. They are ahead and to your left as you leave the elevator and staircase, just east of the center of 3rd floor.
A -- DH
Books that begin with A through DH have Library of Congress classification (call) numbers and are located in the front of the building on 3rd floor.
Regular size books A to DH are in the southeast area of 3rd floor. The shelf labels are yellow.
Quarto A to DH are in the northeast area of 3rd floor just beyond Dewey 999. Shelf labels are blue.
Folio A to DH are in the northeast area of 3rd floor just beyond Quarto A-DH. Shelf labels are orange.
81
87
88
812 -- 999
Books that begin with 81 or 87 or 88 or 812 through 999 have Dewey Decimal classification (call) numbers and they are on the south or back half of 3rd floor. Note that the call numbers beginning with 81, 87 or 88 are shelved as 811, 871 and 881, respectively.
Regular size 81 or 87 or 88 or 812 through 999 begin at the middle of the south wall and continue around the back (west) wall and end at the middle of the north wall.
Quarto 81 or 87 or 88 or 812 through 999 are in the far northeast corner of 3rd floor. Shelf labels are blue.
Folio, 81 or 87 or 88 or 812 through 999 are in the far northeast corner of 3rd floor. Shelf labels are orange.
