Style Manuals

Style manuals provide the basic information necessary for documentation and style in scholarly writing. Following is a selected list of sources available in Wilson General Reference. Other copies and editions of many of these are available in other University of Minnesota libraries.

§Chicago Manual of Style. 14th ed.
The standard work and most comprehensive of the style manuals. This revised and expanded edition presents both the Chicago style and the Harvard or scientific style.

*Form and Style: Theses, Reports, Term Papers. William Giles Campbell. 8th ed.
Written for the undergraduate in the humanities, this manual covers formats of both the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers and Chicago Manual of Style. Explicit instructions with examples to clarify problems.

§*MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. Modern Language Association of America. 45h ed.
A major style manual often recommended for undergraduates in the humanities. Includes a detailed index and many examples. The new edition covers non-print media, CD-ROMs, electronic texts, and e-mail.

One of the major style manuals for North America. Not only for students of psychology but often recommended for other social science disciplines.
