The University of Minnesota Libraries has subscriptions to some of the more important foreign newspapers in the world, but not all of these newspapers have indexes. Below is a list of the indexes that are available in Wilson Library.

APAIS (Australian Public Affairs Information Service). (monthly).
A subject guide to scholarly periodical literature in the social sciences and humanities published in Australia, and to selected periodical articles, conference papers, books, and newspaper articles on Australian economic, social, cultural, and political affairs.

Canadian Index. (monthly)
Continues Canadian News Index and also indexes The Financial Post and over 600 business--popular and academic--journals. Only selected articles from the various publications are indexed. Monthly issues held until replaced by CD-ROM cumulations: CBCA Index, 1993-

Canadian News Index.
Indexing began with the Montreal Star, Toronto Star, Toronto Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, and Winnipeg Free Press. By 1984 the Calgary Herald, Halifax Chronicle Herald, Montreal Gazette, and Toronto Sunday Star were added to the coverage. Also called the Canadian Newspaper Index. Continued by Canadian Index.

Dansk Artikelindeks=The Danish National Bibliography. Articles/udarbej det af Bibliotekscentralen.
Indexes articles from 18 newspapers and approx-imately 800 periodicals published in Denmark (and the Faroe Islands). Indexing is in Danish and English.

France and French Canada

France-Actualite. (annual; ceased). [French]
Computer-generated indexing/ abstracting service for French newspapers. Provides selective indexing to some of the dailies, i.e., Le Monde, Le Figaro, and L'Humanite, and full indexing to the weeklies. It is divided into two sections: 1) subject descrip-tor and 2) chronological sections.

Tables du Journal Le Temps. (ceased) [French]
Le Temps became Le Monde 19 December 1944. Le Temps, for the years 1914-1940, is on microfilm in the Wilson newspapers collection and an index is included on the film.

Le Monde. Index Analytique. (irregular; ceased) [French]
Indexes the most prestigious French paper published. Arrangement is alphabetical by subject. At the end of each letter of the alphabet is a list of the names cited within that section. Publication was irregular.

A new publication which resumes indexing of Le Monde. Arrangement is alphabetical by subject.

Index India, (quarterly, but it is four years behind in publishing).
A quarterly list of selected articles, editorials, notes, letters, etc. from periodicals and newspapers published in English all over the world. Cumulates several indexes including the Indian Newspaper Index. Classified arrangement with alphabetical subject and author indexes. Material indexed pertains only to India.

Palmer's Index to the Times Newspaper.
Quarterly beginning the year 1790 (Oct. 1 to Dec. 31). Tends to be briefer than The Times Index, but is important because of the long period it covers. Includes indexing for the predecessor of The Times, The Daily Universal Register, 1785-1787. There is ample bio-graphical data and obituaries found under Deaths.

The Times Index. (monthly).
The index to the long-running paper. The index is compiled from the final edition. Since 1973 the index includes the Sunday Times (Sunday Times Magazine), Times Literary Supplement, Times Educational Supplement (including Scottish edition), and The Times Higher Educational Supplement.

Includes a world news digest for the previous month and short background articles on political and economic issues for various countries, international organizations, and themes. Also called Keesing's Contemporary Archives.

Latin American Weekly Report (London, England). (weekly).

Middle East Contemporary Survey. (annual)
Part 1 has scholarly essays on regional issues and international relations. Part 2 contains a country-by-country summary of internal and foreign affairs of the Arab states (Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco are excluded), Iran, Israel, and Turkey.

Online Newspaper Collections - WWW Sites
Many newspapers have World-Wide Web sites that provide free access to recent news stories. These newspaper sites often also provide an archive section that indexes stories for the last several years. The Libraries' homepage provides access to several collections of newspaper sites. These world wide sites are normally arranged geographically.

For Foreign Newspapers click on "Foreign News Indexes" after clicking on "Guides to More Information or News Sources".
