Ethnic Newspapers

Ethnic newspapers can be a valuable source of information on individuals in local ethnic communities. Check bibliographies of newspapers of the ethnic group you are researching to find what was published in your specific locale and where copies may be obtained. Go to Current Newspapers Subscriptions in Wilson Library for a list of what is currently available; check MNCAT for archival collection.

Minnesota Finnish American Family History Collection. ca. 1860-1984. The Minnesota Finnish American Family History Collection materials range from brief genealogies to extensive family history narratives relating the experiences of several generaltions. Collections include photographs, documents, and oral histories. The Collection offers a wealth of primary material with special strengths in women's, regional, and family studies, as well as political and social events imports to the area's Finnish Americans. The collection also provides a reliable tool for genealogical research, including as it does, documents such as birth, death, and citizenship certificates and papers. Some materials are restricted; inquire before time of intended use.
