Current Print U.S. Newspapers

This is a list of current print newspapers held by the University Libraries. For each title, information is also included about print holdings, available electronic access, and available indexing. This is NOT a list of all newspapers available electronically. You must check Current Electronic Full-Text Newspaper Collections, below, to see if a title not listed here is available elsewhere electronically. Because most newspaper web sites have from only 1-3 weeks of full-text free online, the web site addresses are not listed unless a substantial free full-text archive is available. For web site addresses, see Indexes to Collections Collections of Newspapers, below.

All print Holdings, unless otherwise noted, are in the Newspaper Room (basement) of Wilson Library.

Searching for Current Newspaper Titles Using MNCAT

1. Finding out if the University Libraries own a specific newspaper title.

To find out if the University Libraries own a specific newspaper, you could go to MNCAT and type the title of the newspaper in the "Browse for" box. However, searching for an individual newspaper title in MNCAT can be very confusing. If you can't find the information you need for accessing newspapers by searching MNCAT or using this guide, either call (612) 624-2373 or go to the Wilson Library 1st floor Reference Desk and ask for help.

2. Finding newspapers by city, county or state.

Using MNCAT (from LUMINA at http://www.lib.umn.edu, then select MNCAT under "Books & More")

  1. Select "Advanced" search (located in the top bar.)
  2. In the first "General Keywords" search field, enter the location, e.g., Denver.
  3. Limit search by "Format."
  4. Scroll through the materials list and select "Newspapers." Click "Submit."

Blue Notebooks

If you are having problems finding a newspaper by city or state via MNCAT, there is a set of blue notebooks in the Wilson 1st Floor Reference Desk Collection that lists all Wilson Library newspapers by state and then by city. Ask at the reference desk for help finding the blue notebooks.
