Wilson Copy Services provides mediated photocopying and other services to the University Community and users of University Libraries. The service desk is located in the basement, across from the Academic Blend Cafe)

 

We offer a wide variety of walk-up services, including:

• Regular black and white photocopying.   20¢ per exposure. Bring us pretty much anything and we'll try our best to make a copy for you (as long as it doesn't violate copyright).

• Color copying.   $1.00 per 8.5 x 11 sheet ($2.00 per 11 x 17 sheet ). Our color copying machine will make 8-1/2 x 11 or 11 x 17 color copies (again, we can't violate copyright, but we'll try our best to copy what we can).
• Microform copying.   30¢ per page.We can make hard copy printouts (8-1/2 x 11) of either microfiche or microfilm. Just be aware that these requests can take a little more time than regular photocopies.
• Transparencies.   50¢ per copy.We will make transparency copies of any hard copy you bring us (sorry, no digital files though). Because our copiers are quite particular, we use our own transparency paper, so don't worry about bringing your own.
• Sheet-fed copies.   10¢ per exposure. Do you have a stack of clean loose pages that we can just drop into our sheet-feeder to copy? That's so easy; Our machines can also sort, stack and staple at no additional charge (but you do have to ask first).

How can I pay?

The Wilson Copy Service accepts cash and checks only. If you are affiliated with a University department, you may also use a valid CUFS number.

 

Can I make copies myself?

Of course! There are eight self-service copiers throughout Wilson Library, and we can assist you in using all of them. All of our copiers require either a U-Card, Gopher card, or fixed value copy card. If you choose to copy using a card, the price is 17¢ per exposure. You can add money to your U Card using any Cash to Card machine on campus. There are two Cash-to-Card machines in Wilson library: one on the first floor, near the Smart Commons, and another in the basement, near the entrance to the Government Publications Library.

 

Where are your coin-op copy machines?

At present, there are no coin operated copy machines in Wilson Library: you will need to use your U-Card or purchase a card to make copies on the self-service machines. Sometimes it may just be easier for you to drop off your copying at the Basement Exit Copy Service, and pay in cash. Alternatively, the staff there can assist you in using the self service machines.

 

I don't have a U Card. How can I get a copy card?

If you don't have a UCard (or your U Card is defective in some way), you can do one of two things:

• Purchase a fixed value card at the Wilson Copy Service. We sell both $10 and $40 cards, and you can purchase them using cash, check, or a CUFS number. One important thing to know about these cards is that once you've used it up, you can't add more money to it (hence the "fixed value" name).
• Purchase a Gopher Gold card at a Cash-to-Card Machine. You can use a Cash-to-Card
  machine to purchase a blank Gopher Gold card for $1. This card will have no value on it, but you can add value using the same Cash-to-Card Machine. These cards are reusable, meaning you can add more value to it at any time. There are two machines, in the first floor and basement lobbies.

 

Where can I get change?

When the copy service is open, we will happily make change for you.

 

What are your hours?

Is there anything you can't copy?

Some material may be too fragile or damaged for us to copy, or may be unsuitable for copying on our machines. If this is the case, we may be able to work with you on coming up with alternate arrangements for copying the material.

What about copyright, is that an issue?

You guessed it: we can't violate copyright. In general, we will make every effort to copy what you need, but we won't be able to copy anything that looks like a copyright violation. The basic policy is as follows:

The Wilson Copy Service provides copies of materials for private study, scholarship, or research purposes for library users. Materials may be copied and distributed through copy services when they are:

• In the public domain; or
• Used with permission from the copyright holder; or
• Used under the provisions of a contract or license agreement, noting that agreements may differ from, and often take precedence over, what is allowed under copyright law; or
• Used under the provisions of Library Copying, U.S. Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. Section 108 or, to the extent possible for University-related instructional or scholarly purposes, under Fair Use, 17 U.S.C. Section 107, as outlined in the Classroom Guidelines, or as determined using a case-by-case four-factor analysis
